• Callie Barber presented a talk at Neuroscience Day, hosted by the Neuroscience Research Institute at The Ohio State University.

• Congratulations! Surith Krishna successfully defended his Honors thesis through the Arts and Sciences Honors Program at The Ohio State University.

• Congratulations! Surith Krishna received Honors Research Distinction in Neuroscience through the Arts and Sciences Honors Program at The Ohio State University.

• Surith Krishna presented his research at the Neuroscience Research Poster Forum, hosted by the Department of Neuroscience, College of Arts and Sciences, The Ohio State University.

• Grace presented the lab’s research, “Transdisciplinary approaches for investigating CIPN,” at the Stefanie Spelman Conference Series for Breast Cancer Research at the Ohio State University, together with Dr. Matt Burford, our collaborator at the CIPN clinic (OSU, Neurology).

Mar, 2026.

• Congratulations! Our own Amruta Salunkhe was accepted into the Biomedical Science Graduate Program at OSU. She will start her PhD program in our lab in August 2026.

• Congratulations! Surith Krishna was accepted into the Master of Science in Bioethics Program at Harvard Medical School.

• Surith Krishna presented his work, “Nociceptive Neurons Shape Immune Cell Responses in a Drosophila Model of Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy,” at the Denman Undergraduate Research Forum, hosted by the Office of Academic Enrichment, Undergraduate Research & Creative Inquiry at The Ohio State University.

Feb, 2026.

• Welcome! Jeshua Avila-Estrada joined the lab as a research associate, jointly appointed with the Quantitative Imaging Group.

• Our CIPN work was featured in the department newsletter 2026 (link)! Grace was also featured as an emerging young investigator in the newsletter.

The second Shin Lab Annual Symposium took place over 2 days. Everyone in the lab shared their progress and plans, and Grace presented the summary of our progress and vision for the third year.

The second biannual Shin Lab Value Meeting took place during the Annual Symposium.

Grace presented the lab’s work at the Mini Symposium session at the Annual Meeting for the Peripheral Nerve Society in 2025, Edinburgh, UK. She served as the organizer and the first speaker on “Peripheral Neuropathic Pain: The Bench to Bedside”, together with Mike Caterina from JHM, Daniella Menichella from Northwestern, Solomon Tesfaye from the UK, and Eleonora Galosi from Italy.

Congratulations! NCI, NIH, funded an R01/R37 application in collaboration with Eric Eisenmann. Grace will serve as a co-I, 2025-2032.

Grace presented the lab’s work at the Sensory Working Group Meeting at Columbia University.

Congratulations! An abstract submitted by Elliot Dion was selected for a talk at the Neuroscience Research Institute’s Annual Retreat in October 2024.

Grace joined the Pelotonia fundraising event as a challenger.

The first Shin Lab Annual Symposium took place over 2 days. We invited Tae Gyu Oh from OU, speaking on multi-omics integration and disease modeling, and Elisabetta Babetto from our own OSU, speaking on Schwann cells and neuron metabolism, as keynote speakers. Everyone in the lab shared their progress and plans, and Grace presented the summary of our progress and vision for the second year.

The second biannual Shin Lab Value Meeting took place at Marcela’s, Short North.

Congratulations! An abstract submitted by Grace and Elliot was selected for a talk at the 8th Axon Degeneration Conference in DC in September 2024. Grace will present the lab’s work in the Axon Degeneration and Disease session. Elliot will join the conference as the first author of the abstract.
